Why should we be really happy??? 2015 is almost here; it may even be here by the time you’re reading this. Our vast, diverse planet we call home; has once again made its 365.256363004 days, 93 million mile trip around our very own personal star. There is also something known as the Goldilocks paradox, another reason we should be really happy. This paradox asks the question, why is the universe just right for us?
” Marcus Chown of New Scientist, looks at the fundamentals of nature and how it seems, the universe was made just for us.” Scientists have a lot of different opinions about this fact. I like Einstein’s quote, “God doesn’t play dice with the universe. ” I sometimes marvel at how smart, some of us think we are. This includes many people who are much smarter than me. My mother always told me that there was such a thing as being too smart for your own good. I’ve known since I was a child that, “fear of the Lord is the beginning of all wisdom”. I try to remember this fact as I go through my day. “The fear of the Lord has nothing to do with the superstitious and childish fear of divine punishment. Instead, it should be understood as the acute consciousness of God’s personal presence at all times and everywhere.” Professor Jacques B. Doukhan, Andrews University.
If we look and listen carefully we will see
Job 12: 7-9 (NIV)
7 “But ask the animals, and they will teach you,
or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you;
8 or speak to the earth, and it will teach you,
or let the fish in the sea inform you.
9 Which of all these does not know
that the hand of the Lord has done this?
I am also very aware; it’s not mandatory that I even be here on this big, spinning ball in space we call home. There are many, many people who were here at the beginning of 2014. Who are not here to celebrate the beginning of 2015. When look at my wife and kids I get even more happy and thankful when I consider this fact.
Job 12:10 (NIV)
10 In his hand is the life of every creature
and the breath of all mankind.
“There are around 60,000 miles of blood vessels in the human body, enough to go around the earth two and a half times. An adult is made up of 7,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (7 octillion) atoms. For perspective, there’s a ‘measly’ 300,000,000,000 (300 billion) stars in our galaxy. Your body produces 25 million new cells each second. Every 13 seconds, you produce more cells than there are people in the United States.”
Psalm 139:14 (NIV)
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
So let’s take a minute and think about all the things that could have gone wrong last year but didn’t. If you’re like me, a lot of things happened last year that you didn’t plan on. Some of them may even have been pretty bad, but I think that we all have several things to be thankful and happy about. People celebrate many, many holidays, but New Years is the one holiday that just about everybody in the entire world celebrates. It represents a fresh start, so lets each of us do our part to make the world a better place in 2015. One thing we should all do is treat each other with kindness and not be judgemental of others. My father used to tell me to “never judge another man until you have walked two moons in his moccasins.”
As we start the New Year, let’s remember these words by Benjamin Franklin,
“Be at war with your vices, at peace with your neighbors, and let every new year find you a better man.”
God be with you until we meet again.
