Getting enough rest is an often overlooked part of keeping our bodies healthy. The working world is very competitive, and we sometimes get tricked into thinking that working longer hours, taking fewer vacations and less time off will lead to a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Sometimes we get so busy chasing the gods of success, power and the almighty dollar that we forget about getting enough rest.

Have you heard the sham put out by synthetic “Christian” business leaders and some politicians? They’re selling the idea that Christianity and capitalism are soul-mates. They say that in both Christianity and capitalism people rise and fall according to their own merits. This may be true for capitalism but in Christianity, this doctrine makes no sense. In the Bible, we quickly learn that our own merits are like filthy rags. I can’t vouch for the entire site, but I like what this web page says about how there is no way that we can work our way to heaven by our own merits, Bible Verses About not Being Good Enough.

Politicians, business leaders and the clergymen in their pocket like to quote scriptures like Proverbs 6;6-112 Thessalonians 3:10 and 1 Timothy 5:8. Now, of course, these verses are right but certain leaders and people in charge, use the Bible to reach a predetermined result that is beneficial to themselves. It really ticks me off when I see the rich and powerful, use religious lies to take advantage of the poor and powerless. Come to think of it. I even saw Donald Trump carrying around a Bible the other day on the campaign trail.

Bible and rest

Some folks would have you believe that the Bible is all about work. They fail to tell you that the concept of rest is essential to Christianity. The Bible is very clear about our need for physical rest. God even gave us the gift of a special day each week to rest and commune with him, see Exodus 20:8-11. If that’s not enough to convince you; look at what Jesus says about rest.

Matthew 11:28-30 New International Version (NIV)

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Jesus Christ

Reasons You Don’t get Enough Rest

Pictured below is an infogram that shows some of the main reasons we are aways so busy. It also tells you about the damage being busy all the time causes. For example, overwork causes 120,00+ deaths each year! I hope that you enjoy the infogram and find it useful. Enjoy your weekend and be sure to get enough rest.
