The African Igbo people, always practical, have a saying. "He who would hold another down in the mud must stay in the mud to keep him down." Many people don't realize that you can't discredit the humanity of others without denying your own. Some folks love to bring up your past and beat you over the head with it. Haters thoroughly enjoy using this approach. Staying far away from the crowd with this attitude is one of my goals. What happened in the past is in the past; nothing you do can change that. This brings to mind a cherished Bible verse; I'm going to quote the Message Version here's...
Micah 7:19
Where is the god who can compare with you— wiping the slate clean of guilt, Turning a blind eye, a deaf ear, to the past sins of your purged and precious people? You don’t nurse your anger and don’t stay angry long, for mercy is your specialty. That’s what you love most. And compassion is on its way to us. You’ll stamp out our wrongdoing. You’ll sink our sins to the bottom of the ocean.
